A completely girly sketch bomb on my blog I know, but hey, not every client is in advertising right? It is always fun, and a little daunting when someone asks you to do something you haven't done before, having not worked on a mural (well other than in highschool) I must admit I was a little frightened when a couple of months ago when I was asked to do just that - create a mural for a full wall in a child's bedroom. Some of you may have noticed some of the pencil sketches I've been sharing on social media lately - they are far from the usual colourful fashion work I've been creating over the last year, and I feel like I am stepping back in time, back to drawing 101. A few people seem to be enjoying the work, some are missing the babes, but I promise the babes will be back ... promise!
Although I am calling this a "mural" I guess it is not exactly a mural in the traditional sense as while I am creating the first step by hand, it is then going to be scanned, pieced together digitally and then printed. The reasoning behind this decision is that the family plan to move house before their daughter is five and they want to be able to take the artwork wherever they move to, instead of leaving it behind painted on a wall. I think that's cute.
So here are some of my first W.I.P sketches for those of you who love to see things as they happen. Five pencils down and far to go, but the more I draw the more I am reminded of beautiful fairy tale books I read when I was a child and I can only imagine the daydreams that will happen when looking at a full forest scene on a bedroom wall. I'll be back with some more progress soon, hope you like it so far.
