Retro Matte range by Mac cosmetics - as a long time lover of Russian Red and Lady Danger the purchase of new matte colours was too much temptation to deny, I even used them before I took a photo for you (above) I apologise for the wonky tops! With 8 colours and matching Pro Longwear pencils those who love matte will without a doubt be overjoyed at the options. Colours are bold and flat, the staying power is spectacular and they slide on much creamier than the Pro-longwear of the past.

I road tested three colours over a few days - "Relentlessly Red" was the first to grab my attention, an almost fluorescent deep pinky red it screams for a liquid eyeliner match and did have me feeling very retro. "All Fired Up" is slightly more blue based, a little more burgundy (but equally as glam), and "Runaway Hit" I chose for its similarity to "Ravishing" a Cremesheen that I love the colour of, but never lasts quite as long as I would like. I found the staying power pretty impressive - even without the matching Longwear liner these colours fought through dinners, drinks and even kisses, the stain remained strong for 4 - 6 hours. Retro Matte do last longer than the standard matte colours, but the downside is that they do flake a little and dry pieces gathered around the edge of my lips. I do prefer the standard matte varieties overall as they don't flake, but will still use the Retro Matte purely for the colour options.

After deciding to photograph the three colours I purchased I am now 100% certain that all those lip photographs I have ever seen on blogs are actually the same lips over and over with photoshop creating the is impossible to position your lips the same each time!
