Many times since moving to Australia I have heard people refer to New Zealand fashion as "safe" with screwed up noses as they stand in front of me in their white tee and ripped denims...go figure. It was not something that I had considered until moving here, but from the outside I can understand how that impression may have been gained - en masse shapes are traditional, bold colour is used as an accent, and the silk blouse reins Queen. These points are generalisations, and as someone with many blouses they are not criticisms, but what it does mean is that when a designer comes out with a bright orange and blue print you can't help but notice. Enters Brooke Tyson and her horse print as part of her SS13/14 collection titled Sundance Kid. Having recently drooled my mouth dry over Ostwald Helgason and Stella Jean at NYFW this colourful delivery was exactly what I needed to add some much needed pattern to my retiring winter wardrobe. As a recent convert to pants in general this pyjama dressing combo has introduced new comfort and also much interest from passers by, I may have to invest in the matching shorts!

More about Brooke:

I secretly love... Watching 90s music videos on youtube.

At the moment I am inspired by.... So many things - Old western movies, African fabric prints, such amazing variety! (our summer horse fabric is an african wax print). Prints prints prints everywhere for summer....Summer colours and smells, beautiful girls, music...the list goes on!

In five years I want to be... Still supporting the NZ fashion industry by making my product here, always expanding.

Summer or Winter?  Summer.

My next purchase is... A Yestadt millinery peaks hat.

My favourite makeup product is... Theres are 2 - MAC Longwear Paintpot in Painterly, and cream olour base in vintage rose...both are staples in my makeup kit.

Skirts or pants?  Dresses! Then pants.

Sweet or Savoury? Both

If I wasn't a fashion designer I would be... an artist, a maker of things, I love creating.
