Earlier this year I was asked to collaborate with Salasai to create a small series of collages for their Winter 16 collection Primitive Play. Inspired by the title I relaxed in to the process, playing with textures, monochrome and a combination of paints and digital brushes.
The images have just been released with a full article about the collection on Catalogue Magazine , and here a few words from Salasai designer Kirsha about the collaboration...
Catalogue: You collaborated with illustrator and photographer Kelly Thompson on some exclusive imagery for fall-winter 2016, which we’re presenting here. Why Kelly?
Kirsha Whitcher: I have a love for Kelly’s work; it’s intricate and delicate, yet bold and unassuming, which I felt was a great contrast to Salasai. She is a also a strong personality in the industry, whom a lot of women can emulate and so, by nature, she is an inspiration to many. I wanted to see how Kelly and I could come together in creating something innovative, yet contemporary for Salasai’s new collection Primitive Play.
Catalogue: Why do you think collaboration is such an important part of the creative process?
Kirsha Whitcher: Because it brings together two creative identities and creates something new and fresh, taking your idea and views to another level of appreciation — it’s a very exciting process
Hope you like!
