Are your drawings based on real-life people or do they come from your imagination? - Megan
I always work from reference (although am constantly imagining bigger hair!), mainly because my style is quite realistic and if I didn't use reference material everything would end up looking a bit strange. I am not the greatest with perspective drawing and often find that without a reference my proportions or angles can be a bit off. A lot of my girls are girls I have photographed from when I worked more regularly as a photographer - I used to shoot a lot of extra shots so that I could keep them on file for reference at a later date. I now collect images all the time and tag them in an online program called Evernote, I have tags such as "legs" "face" "hair" etc tagged to images and it makes it much easier for me to find exactly what I want without having to trawl the internet for every single reference I need.
If I don’t have the exact reference I want in my own photos I build one from a few different images pieced together. If you are not working with your own reference material you have to be careful as you can't just go drawing any photograph you like, particularly so when doing client work. If you are sourcing from Google ask permission if you wish to use a full image, or alternatively you can piece together numerous images to create something original.
